If you use free and open-source software, like we do, you might feel the urge to say "thanks" or give some money to help the developers. The problem is, many of us use hundreds of software packages that are developed by thousands of people. We can't afford to give them $10 each, and it's impractical to give them 10c each! Until now, that is: uthx makes it practical.
This free service uthx (user thanks) helps you make small donations to many people or projects with a single payment. When other people make similar donations, they can add up to a large amount. For example, if 10000 people donate $10 each to be split among 100 software developers, each developer receives a total of $1000.
Millions of people and thousands of companies use free software, so developers might potentially receive a lot more than $1000 through uthx. Some people might choose to donate regularly. People who give to support software developers can help them to earn a living doing what they love - writing free software.
You can use uthx software to discover what free software you use and how much you use it. You can choose who you want to support, and how much you want to give to each developer. You can support apps, doc, libs, tools, pkgs, websites, etc. You can donate anonymously if you like. You can send a "thank-you" message to the developers, they like that (even without a donation).
uthx does not charge any fee, we do not even handle your money. Instead, we coordinate donors and maintain balance sheets so that each donor can give to nearby developers. Donors have the opportunity to meet developers. Alternatively, money can be transferred using banks, paypal or similar. We do not show ads on the website. If anyone wishes to support us they can include uthx in a donation.
We hope also that we can support musicians, artists and authors who make their work freely available.

(this service is not active at all yet, so in fact no account will be created! sorry)
note: These logos of some famous free software projects do not indicate that they endorse uthx, only that we wish to support them.
